How Does It Work?
Cape Camino Pilgrim's Passport is your access to walking the Cape Camino route. Get it stamped when on Camino and when you have all your stamps you receive a certificate of competition.
Stamp locations are service providers that you'll be using to sleep at/eat at/be guided by. These and other service providers offer discounts and value adds to passport holders. You make your passport fee back in 3 days on Camino.
Although we will send you one over email, we advise you collect a more durable one from us. Inside the passport will have a basic shape of the route with a space on each leg for you to get it signed. On the back there is place for a picture of you, as well as other details.
Your Unique Number
You need to write your unique number on the front of your passport, so service providers know that you are a legitimate pilgrim and can receive your pilgrim discounts / value adds.
Your number will be sent to you over email once you have contacted Cape Camino and redeemed your voucher.
If you have any trouble with this, please let our support team know. You can contact Peggy directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
Route Online and Maps
There are 7 official legs of the Cape Camino route, with 3 extensions in between. All are manageable with map navigation only, but we do recommend guides on some of the legs, especially if you are walking alone.
3 types of Maps you can use
We are proud to say our route is marked (manually) on Peter Slingsby’s waterproof map of the Cape Peninsula. Peter is the last cartographer left in South Africa and has an array of beautifully detailed maps. In 2018 we plan to have printed the route on the map, with markings of sacred sites and some service providers. However, until then, our logistics team carefully crafts each route, pinpointing the sacred sites with visible dots.
On some legs, the Slingsby Map is not detailed enough so we include map sections which have been screenshotted off google maps. We will send these to you once you have redeemed your voucher.
(takes this out) If you have booked a package these will be included but please write to us if you’ve bought your passport and when planning your route find the Leg difficult to navigate.
The Benefits of Having a Passport
Discounts / Value-Adds
It is compulsory for Products and Service Providers on the Cape Camino website (i.e. establishments and shops) to offer some sort of discount/value-add to pilgrims who have purchased a pilgrim passport. Community projects and sacred sites which require entry fees will not offer a discount.
Our list of discounts is growing everyday as new Service Providers sign up. Our categories are:
